Kutch: The Region

With the introduction of the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendment, women’s entry in the PRIs has brought significant transformations in the lives of women, particularly among those, who have become empowered, and have gained self-confidence, political awareness and are in a position to affirm their own identity. Such opportunities enabling women’s entry into the political processes, demonstrated that as women gained confidence, they are able to challenge and question the existing unequal structures and power relations, both in public and private spaces .It was in this context that KMVS had submitted a proposal for Engendering Governance to strengthen women’s participation in Panchayati Raj Institutions in Kutch. This project was initiated in 2006. It received support from the Paul Hamiliton Foundation UK and it comes to a close in 2012. While a review was done in June 2009, an end evaluation was necessitated currently to understand the impact made so far and to seek directions for the future. Hence this evaluation has been done.
